Wiktoria’s story: from clearing to research career

A Biomedical Science graduate is looking to forge a career as a researcher despite only gaining a place at the University of Salford through clearing.
Wiktoria Wisniewska was faced with disappointment when she wasn’t accepted into her choice of universities after her A-levels.
She had her eyes set on studying Medicine after being fascinated with the subject from a young age. Her A Levels consisted of Biology, Chemistry and Maths, however COVID caused a huge gap in hands-on experience for her.
Living in Eccles caused Wiktoria to research Salford as a potential option. The Biomedical Sciences degree caught her attention, with a reputation for fantastic support and great reviews.
“You know, I thought my career was over” Wiktoria said, “but I called biomedicine clearing and they got back to me pretty much within an hour. The entire process was really calm. I was initially very, very nervous, but the second the lady on the phone picked up, I knew I wasn’t going to have to stress any longer because she asked all the right questions, and I knew the course was right for me and I accepted the offer.
In an instant Wiktoria’s future was back on track. She went on to thoroughly enjoy her time at Salford and it was everything she expected and more. “Throughout the years at Salford, I’ve gained so much tremendous support from my personal tutor, my lecturers, my peers, the careers advisors as well. So as a whole, generally I’ve gained so much support that it’s only ever grew my passion for biomedicine, which is why I’d like to stay there.”
Wiktoria is now going on to do a Masters at the University of Salford after graduating from the Biomedical Sciences course this summer and hopes to go on to work in research. Her one piece of advice to those going through clearing is to “trust the process.”
“I would just say to anyone in the same position as me this summer, don’t panic, there are lots of options and there are lots of people to help.”
