The Economics of Levelling Up

Levelling up is an important aspect of practical policy. But the concept raises issues which are of fundamental importance for economic theory. For example, should policies be explicitly “place based” or should they be “place neutral”? Should interventions be concentrated, or spread more widely?

In this Vital Topics lecture Paul Ormerod, chair of the Atom Valley Mayoral Development Zone and the Rochdale Development Agency and Honorary Professor at AMBS, will explore the connections between the theory and the practice of levelling up.
