Seashell Bikefest 2020
26th August 2020, 3:33 pm
Seashell Trust has had to cancel its annual Sportive this year due to Coronavirus but cyclists need not fear – the Seashell Sportive is going digital! Get your lycra on and join #TeamSeashell on your bike as we launch our Bikefest. Don’t worry if the Sportive is not normally for you – this year there’s something for all. We want to encourage everyone to get involved, so whether you’re a novice cyclist or a seasoned pro, choose your challenge – or do all 3 – and get pedalling! There are medals to be earned or some fabulous prizes to be won.
Challenge 1
Cycle the equivalent of the Seashell Sportive epic route 100 miles in 30 days (just over 3 miles a day or 23 miles a week). Record it on Strava (or other fitness app) and share your progress with us tagging Seashell Trust and using #SeashellBikefest – there’s a medal for everyone who completes the 100 miles.
Challenge 2
Let’s have your best Strava ‘drawing’ – plan your route and then ‘draw’ it while you’re out cycling. Could be a dog, a bike wheel or something much more imaginative! Record it on Strava and post it on social media for us to see, tagging Seashell Trust and using the hashtag #SeashellBikefest There’ll be a prize for our favourite – so get creative!
Challenge 3
Get out and about on your bike and join in our photo ‘scavenger hunt’. Instead of finding items, you’ll need to take photos – how many of the following can you find? We want to see you on your bike with the items from the list below. Tag Seashell Trust on social media and use #SeashellBikefest. There’ll be prizes for our favourite pics!
– At the furthest point from Seashell Trust (SK8 6RQ) | – At the highest point
– Best bike modification |
– With an animal in the background | – Craziest cycling outfit |
– At sunrise or sunset | – Best family ride photo |
– A place of worship/beautiful building | – Best / worst weather ride |
– A well-known landmark | – A beautiful landscape |
– Best picnic |
There is no registration fee but we’d love people to set up a fundraising page to help raise money for the children and young people in our care who have very complex disabilities. Lockdown has been an incredibly challenging time as we have some of the most at risk children and young people here and it has been so much pressure for our families but we are so proud of how all our children, young people, families and key workers have coped. Any funds raised will mean you truly change their lives and help us mitigate some of the losses we face in cancelling the Sportive. We normally raise just under £30,000 at the Sportive so any help would be so gratefully received.
