New tips legislation comes into force

30th September 2024, 11:34 am

The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 comes into force on 1st October 2024. Its purpose is to regulate tipping and to ensure that tips are allocated fairly and transparently.

All businesses who frequently receive tips must now have a written policy of how you treat tips and must keep records of how the tips are allocated.

Tips not paid in line with the Act could be considered an unlawful deduction from wages, leaving you vulnerable to a legal claim.
