New Dungeon Ghyll, a leading country hotel in the heart of the Lake District, is being offered for sale from a guide price of £3m by the specialist hotels team at real estate advisors Colliers International.
Located in around eight acres of landscaped gardens and grounds at Great Langdale, Ambleside, Cumbria and offering panoramic views of the Langdale Valley and it’s iconic fells, New Dungeon Ghyll has 23 en suite bedrooms, a restaurant, popular bar and lounges, a two-bedroom manager’s flat, staff accommodation block, parking for more than 20 vehicles and over eight acres of beautiful landscaped gardens.
The historic property was originally a farmhouse before becoming a hotel in 1832. It was acquired by current owners Mr & Mrs J Smith in 1991 and has undergone substantial renovation and development.
In the year to end December 2018, the business generated turnover of £1,027,000 with high profit margins and potential for further improvement in its financial performance along with further development potential.
With the current owners now planning to focus on other business interests, they have instructed Colliers International to seek offers in excess of £3m for New Dungeon Ghyll.
Julian Troup, head of UK hotels agency at Colliers International, is managing the sale on behalf of the owners and said: “Having worked tirelessly over almost 30 years to transform New Dungeon Ghyll into one of the Lake District’s most renowned country hotels, J & J Smith Hotels are offering new owners the opportunity to acquire a well-established and popular business in a stunning location in the Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
“The Lake District remains one of our most productive UK regions for hospitality sector transactions and we’re confident of attracting a strong level of interest in the property.”
