Metrolink – Overnight track repair works – High Street/Market Street, Manchester
4th August 2020, 10:44 am
I am writing to inform you about essential repair work due to be carried out on a section Metrolink track at the corner of High Street and Market Steet, outside the entrance to the Debenhams store.
The work will involve the replacement of a section of rail from 11pm on Friday 7 August for a duration of approximately 9 days. 24 hour working will be required throughout this period in order to complete the repair as quickly as possible and minimise disruption to the local community and travelling passengers.
It is part of essential maintenance to ensure the safe and continued operation of Metrolink.
Due to the proximity of the works, for safety reasons, it will be necessary for the Market Street tram stop to close for the duration of the works with no trams services operating at Shudehill or Market Street tram stops.
Signed pedestrian diversions will be in place around the worksite and access to local businesses will be maintained.
Work will require the use of saw cutters and other equipment and will be noisy at times. Where possible, measures will be in place to reduce noise levels, including the use of noise barriers and noise supression on equipment. The noisiest work is likely to take place over the first few days while the contractor breaks out the contrete track shoulder and cuts the rail, however the timing of these activities will be reviewed to minimise disturbance where possible.
If you have any queries or concerns regarding the work, please contact the Customer Relations team on 0161 244 1000, during working hours. For any problems out of hours, please contact the works contractor on 08454 504190.
