Member Spotlight: Obehi Alofoje, Psychologist & Director – Aurora

I’m Obehi. I am a psychologist and director of culture change consultancy, Aurora Inc. We support senior HR and Business Leaders in organisations to successfully implement evidence-based strategies for mental wellbeing and psychological safety in the workplace.
I’m a British-Nigerian via London now living in Manchester, a happy PANK (Professional-Aunty-No-Kids), a snobby flat–white coffee drinker and a hearing-aid wearer.
When I’m not helping business leaders run their world, I love travelling the globe, one little corner at a time, soaking up the diverse cultures, and sampling delicious local cuisines.
Career highlight: Winning the Independent Podcast Awards last year for ‘Best Health and Wellbeing’ category for our podcast The Wellbeing Rebellion. Also being featured as a behavioural change expert on NBC New York Live during the pandemic!
Name three words that describe your personality: Forthright, Friendly, Optimistic
What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?Too many best things to just mention one! I love the networking opportunities, and the various ‘random’ events like the Fintech Lunches that I didn’t think I’d be remotely interested in (because I know nothing about Fintech) but then love it because I learn something new each time. I also absolutely love the pro-manchester team – they’ve been so welcoming and supportive.
What are your priorities for 2024? Travel more. Network more. Laugh more. Eat more amazing foods!
Favourite meeting place in Manchester: Ooh, I have a few favourites depending on what’s happening! So here goes…
· For a quick coffee – Black Sheep Coffee on St Peters Square
· For breakfast/brunch – The Ivy
· For a lazy lunch/early dinner – Six By Nico
· For after work drinks – Schofield’s Bar and The Ivy (both make a really good Old Fashioned!)
· For deep soulful conversations on plush sofas where you won’t be bothered or overheard, with a live musician sometimes playing in the background, and discreet waiters bringing you free snacks! – The Lowry Hotel Bar!
What types of business would you like to meet?Following the 2022 Extense ‘1% Study’ that cited that less than 1% of Partners at major UK law firms (firms with 10+ Partners) identify as Black, we’ve been working more with law firms to help them address this. This includes creating and delivering Leadership Development programmes and Executive Coaching, as well as Racial Equity strategies to increase representation and career progression of Black lawyers. So, to that end, I’d love to meet and connect more with leaders from law firms based in Manchester.
