Member Spotlight: Jenny Burke, Partner – Forbes Solicitors

I am an experienced Partner in the Corporate Department at Forbes, leading on high value and complex transactions and with experience in the full range of corporate services, including mergers and acquisitions, internal restructures, demergers, banking work, investments, and implementation of tax schemes. In addition, I provide advice to businesses on general company law matters such as directors’ duties, compliance, finance, and banking.

I focus on the technology, leisure and tourism and care sectors as well as supporting the firms core clients across the manufacturing and engineering sectors. I am experienced in acting for purchasers, sellers and financial institutions and have established relationships with accounting practices, banks, insolvency practices and financial advisers across the Northwest, particularly in the Greater Manchester area.

I have advised clients on cross jurisdictional and international transactions and have strong contacts internationally with specialist advisers. I also support companies in implementing Employee Ownership Trusts and advise companies, shareholders, finance providers and other professionals on the EOT journey including the tax treatment and benefits of such schemes.

Career highlight:

In 2021 I represented a long-standing acquisitive client on a large and complex sale to an international buyer. I had worked with the client for years on the buy and build journey and it was a great experience to see the deal through to exit and assist the shareholders with whom I had worked for years and seen the whole journey and hard work through to an extremely rewarding end.

For me personally, becoming a Partner at Forbes was a pivotal moment in my journey and I remain thrilled to be a large part of the firm I have always had such belief in and whose values very much match my own

Name three words that describe your personality: Organised, efficient, approachable

I am often told that I am organised, efficient and approachable. I believe that my client focused and friendly client care style is what ensures clients come back to me for all of their legal needs.

What are your priorities for 2024?

2024 is a year of focus with Forbes looking to widen its client reach and profile within central Manchester. We have exciting plans for our office base in the city and lots of challenging and interesting transactions in the pipeline. Keep your eyes open for some brilliant summer events hosted by us in the city centre this year!

With the general election looming this is a period of uncertainty for businesses however at Forbes we prioritise reassuring our clients and guiding them on their journey, ensuring that legals are smooth and they feel valued and listed to. My priority, as always, is to ensure that I provide the best quality service to our clients and continue to work with the strong network of clients and referrers within the city.

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

I absolutely love Manchester, it’s a thriving and exciting place to work with opportunity around every corner.

The business community is extremely supportive and collaboration is at an all time high. I think the most important thing is for the business community to continue to support each other and to work hard together to get through the current recession, Pro Manchester is a key part of this support and I’m looking forward to a year of growth and events in conjunction with Pro Manchester.

Piccolino, the food is always amazing, the atmosphere is buzzing and you are always guaranteed to bump into a few contacts!

What types of business would you like to meet?
