1. Introduce yourself – Bermans Jon Davage – Commercial | Bermans

I am Managing Director and Head of Corporate at Bermans Solicitors, who has offices in Manchester and Liverpool. I have been with the firm since January 2012 and we are a full service Commercial law firm who are market leaders in Asset Finance and Invoice Finance.

We became part of the MAPD Group in September 2022 and this has presented us with an opportunity to work with other firms in the group which means we can offer a fuller range of legal services to our clients and contacts.

2. Career highlight – there have been many from a transactional perspective which included technology sales to Disney and Ebay, however, I would say establishing the corporate team in Manchester in 2012 & growing the corporate team in Manchester & Liverpool to be a well-known and respected corporate team.

3. Name three words that describe your personality – pragmatic, positive & loyal.

4. What’s the best thing about pro-manchester – giving our fee earners and more importantly clients access to Manchester’s professional community, allowing the promotion and a deep understanding of the valuable business ecosystem.

5. What are your priorities for 2024 – as you would imagine, recruitment and retention of people is always a priority, however, we are focused on the internal culture and processes, which will be a priority again for the board and head of operations. We are also investing in new technologies along, new service lines and looking to expand into new geographies if the right opportunity arises.

6. What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment? From our perspective it is the continued expansion of the financial services sector which drives investment into SMEs and bolsters the professional services sector. The local ABL sector is thriving along with Equity Funding sector, which is particularly pleasing to see, as these are the niche areas which Bermans was built on and continues to service.

7. Favourite meeting place in Manchester – PKB – Barton Arcade – a wonderful example of a well-run independent business which sits heads and shoulders above the known brands.

8. Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet – we welcome approaches from all businesses in the city and other lawyers (we want to collaborate!), part of our ethos is adding value to every client and referrer we work with.
