Making the invisible visible – Turning Manchester Green
30th January 2019, 3:06 pm
What’s happening?
In the run up to The Greater Manchester Green Summit 2019 on 25th March, GMCA are working alongside Big Clean Switch to promote switching to a clean energy tariff.
In order to show support for green energy to the people of Greater Manchester, we are encouraging buildings/landmarks that are powered by renewable electricity (or are in the process of switching) to colour their external lighting green for a week.
Why take part?
You’ve done a great thing, you’re powered by clean renewable energy! Why not let people know that you’ve done it? And encourage others to follow suit at the same time. Lighting up buildings green will generate media coverage to highlight the acceptance and demand for green energy – this a great way to show your green credentials.
Be part of turning Manchester green!
Want to take part?
We’re aiming to get many buildings across Greater Manchester to light up green and we would love you to be part of it! As long as you are powered by renewable energy, or are in the process of switching, and have external lighting, you can take part. Contact Ollie Wilson at Big Clean Switch to let him know you are keen: [email protected] or 07753 218375.
Timings?
11th -15th March – this is two weeks to 10 days before the The Greater Manchester Green Summit 2019 on 25th March. Buildings will be lighting up green each evening that week at 6:30pm.
How do you do it?
Depending on how your exterior lighting works:
- Some buildings will be able to automatically change their lighting to green through their lighting systems.
- Others will need to tape a green cover over their flood lights. We can provide advice on this.
Who are Big Clean Switch? And why are they working with the GMCA?
Big Clean Switch is a “profit with purpose” business, with an aim to help as many homes and businesses get on to renewable energy. Big Clean Switch has been selected by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to work as their partner in switching homes and businesses over to renewable energy in the Greater Manchester region. Big Clean Switch can also help your employees or customers save money by switching their own homes over to clean energy.
