It’s Time

As more people come back to the workplace, a safe and sustainable return to the transport network will support the recovery for our thriving city-region – building back better and greener. Embedding a smarter way of commuting can also lead to tangible health, wellbeing and productivity benefits.

With the return to the workplace comes the opportunity to change behaviours for how and when people get there. Reducing the number of trips taking place at the busiest times frees up capacity for those businesses and employees in sectors – including health, leisure, retail, and manufacturing – which often have fixed hours of operation; while supporting active travel (including walking, jogging and cycling) for shorter commutes or encouraging public transport use while reducing car use, can improve health and wellbeing for us all.

A new funding package of active travel grants for business is also available. SMEs with fewer than 250 staff can access a £250,000 pot (up to £10,000 per application) for interventions such as cycle parking, pool bikes and changing or storage solutions.
