National law firm, Forbes Solicitors, has advised Søstrene Grene as the Danish retail chain is set to open a new store in Derbion, Derby’s largest indoor shopping centre.
Søstrene Grene is a Danish family-owned retailer which was founded in 1973. It currently has a portfolio of more than 250 stores across 15 countries, with plans to continue to expand across the UK in the coming years.
The deal was led by commercial property partner at Forbes, Helen Marsh, who worked alongside Matt Illingworth of Hynes Illingworth, the appointed letting agent, to secure a long-term lease of the 384 square metre space.
This will be Søstrene Grene’s fifth store in England and the first in the UK to open since the launch of the Manchester store in 2019.
Helen Marsh said: “Derbion is the ideal location – the shopping centre is the largest in the region and an evolving and fun destination with an impressive roster of tenants. I’ve no doubt Søstrene Grene’s contemporary and affordable products and creative displays will prove extremely popular and it’s been fantastic to work with such a visionary brand.”
The store opened on 4 November and will employ 14 staff. It will offer a wide assortment of home interiors, furniture, stationery and toys, which are updated weekly with products in a signature Scandinavian design and well-known for their affordable prices-.
Bjørn Bach Eriksen, Global COO, at Søstrene Grene, added: “This will be the first store to feature our new concept in the UK, so it’s a real landmark for us. It was vital that we worked with a team that understands our unique brand and what we can offer to different regions as we continue to grow.
“The team at Forbes Solicitors and Matt Illingworth have provided excellent support throughout the process and we look forward to opening the doors to customers in the East Midlands.”
