Domestic Abuse Webinar – 17th October

6th October 2023, 2:00 pm

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and is a time to acknowledge, more than ever, the extent to which domestic violence and abuse affects individuals across the UK. Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. The most recent Government report on domestic abuse prevalence and trends confirmed that there are, on average, 2.3 million victims of domestic abuse each year aged 16 to 74 (two-thirds of whom are women) and more than one in ten of all offences recorded by the police are domestic abuse-related.

Domestic and economic abuse can impact the workplace, and relationships within it. Employers are often unprepared when it comes to dealing with employees who could be either victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse, and unaware of what their legal duties are when these difficult situations arise. Employers also need to deal with the economic and social costs which can be a consequence of domestic abuse related absences. It is clear, therefore, that there are not only moral and economic arguments for ensuring there is increased awareness and understanding of domestic abuse in their workplaces, but also legal obligations for doing so.

Join members of our Employment, Family and Social Care teams for our upcoming domestic abuse webinar where we will cover:

  • What is economic and financial abuse?
