The Bridgewater Hall
The Bridgewater Hall is Manchester’s iconic and prestigious concert venue, built to provide the best possible space for live music. The Auditorium offers a unique and exciting environment for a range of conferences, awards ceremonies, dinners, graduations, drinks receptions and weddings.
Officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 1996 the Hall will be celebrating its 21st birthday this year; although many think the venue is much younger due to the fresh, contemporary architecture.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Hall’s construction is that the entire structure floats free of the ground on almost three hundred, earthquake-proof giant springs, so there is no rigid connection between the 22,500 ton building and its foundations. This ensures the Auditorium’s carefully designed acoustic is protected from noise and vibration from the Metrolink tram lines and road just outside. The Auditorium seats nearly 2400 people, but is surprisingly warm and intimate for a venue of its size. The seating is carefully tiered to draw everyone as closely as possible around and into the performance space. Taking centre stage at the front of the Auditorium is the Hall’s magnificent Marcussen organ, at £1.2 million the organ boasts an astonishing 5,500 pipes and weighs a mighty 22 tons.
When hiring the Auditorium clients get use of the whole venue with access to the unusually shaped front of house foyers and bars with floor to ceiling glass walls the foyers offer spectacular views of the city centre skyline.
