Afternoon All,

Mpox Update:
A sustained reduction in mpox case numbers across England and the success of vaccination in helping to control the outbreak means the vaccination programme is no longer needed as an outbreak control measure and can now be wound down.

Vaccination has played a crucial role in protecting people and reducing case numbers. People who are eligible but have not yet received two doses of the vaccine are being encouraged to come forward and book their first dose by 16 June 2023 and be booked in for their second dose by the end of July 2023.

Mpox cases have fallen across the UK from a high of 350 per week in July 2022 to just six new cases so far from the start of 2023. Three people acquired mpox in the UK and three were returning travellers.

Everyone at highest risk from mpox is eligible for two doses of the vaccine; UKHSA data has shown that one dose of the vaccine offers 78% protection against the virus from 14 days after receiving it, and the second dose aims to provide longer term protection.

UKHSA will continue to closely monitor case numbers and will retain the ability to stand up the vaccination programme if the risk of infection rises significantly.

Read more in their news story and their social assets to encourage mpox vaccination are here.

The Proud Trust is embarking on the creation of a toolkit for Greater Manchester schools to give clear guidance on positively supporting trans (including non-binary) young people.

The first phase of this is to understand the needs and concerns of relevant parties – young people themselves (trans or otherwise), and the adults in their lives, their parents/carers and the professionals who support them (teachers, youth workers, etc.). We have two surveys to collect this information.

OutStageUs: Submissions Now Open

This ground-breaking 2023 OutStageUs programme is designed to ignite creativity by offering a tailor-made artistic journey for early to mid-career LGBTQ+ writers.

With a proud tradition of nurturing the talents of up-and-coming LGBTQ+ creators, OutStageUs provides a platform to showcase new LGBTQ+ writing and performance.

LGBTQ+ writers are invited to submit captivating scripts that delve into LGBTQ+ themes. They’re particularly eager to receive submissions from Global Majority writers, neurodiverse writers, and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, to celebrate and champion diversity.

They’re in search of scripts that entertain audiences and challenge their perspectives – innovative work that explores a variety of themes within the LGBTQ+ community and brings fresh, underrepresented stories to light.

They want to captivate our audiences, evoke laughter or tears, and encourage reflection on the world we inhabit, and the challenges faced by this community.

OutStageUs is about stimulating thought-provoking discussions and inspiring creativity in others.

Coping with the challenges of bringing up a child or children whilst also working, as well as juggling day to day life can be difficult. But what happens if one of your children, or someone you know and love is diagnosed with either a physical disability or a neurodiverse condition?

At this event you’ll hear from a wide range of panellists who will speak openly about their personal stories and discuss the challenges they have faced along the way. We will share ideas and insights into the coping mechanisms, processes and strategies which have helped our panellists, as well as the practical issues which have been navigated by them, such as choice and location of schools, living arrangements, supporting charities and more.

We hope that sharing lived experiences in this way will be inspiring and thought provoking, and that we can educate each other to support those around us as and when they need it. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to say, and we want to try and break down those barriers. This is set to be a very powerful and thought provoking, interactive event. https://www.pro-manchester.co.uk/event/life-children-and-additional-needs/

Now through new orchestral arrangements, same-sex duets and medleys juxtaposing eulogy and euphoria, this concert celebrates everyone who shares our love, and our pride.

Celebrating the LGBTQ+ Community

At the heart of the concert is a brand-new Pride Anthem, conceived and composed by local community members and performed by the full orchestra to celebrate what Pride means today.

HOME MCR: Drag Addict Tues 18 July – Sat 12 Aug

Tickets are now available for Drag Addict a spleen different new musical full of high stakes, high emotions and even higher heels!

With choreography by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips, and high energy bangers and catchy tunes by Matt Caine and David Andrew Wilson, this new musical takes to the HOME stage this summer.

It’s summer in Manchester. It’s raining (obviously) and on Canal Street storm clouds of another sort are gathering – Club Fierce is under threat. But Dolly Ravage – godmother of the Gay Village – isn’t going down without a fight. Can she recruit six queens to slay the runway and reinvent the club as the all-new House of Ferocity in time to save it from property developers? Or will the arrival of the mysterious Bobby Carter from America – hiding a secret that could change everything – derail her battle to save the soul of the scene?

Drag Addict combines musical theatre, pop music and drag and creates one fierce, funny, uplifting and heart-warming show!

This will then be produced and narrated to promote what you are trying to offer, then set on the Academy’s socials pages and website and possibly used for the Gaydio Evenings shows and website.

This is completely free as it is part of a project the Academy is running. If you would like the extra exposer, please can you email the Academy Manager, Lee Barnes, with a short intro of your organisation and he will get back to you.

If you feel that you no longer wish to receive these emails, PLEASE let me know, I would hate to think I am bombarding you with information that you don’t require and it is just blocking up your inbox. (I won’t be offended).

Remember, if you have events or information you wish to share across Greater Manchester then feel free to send that over to me to be included, I send this email out to over 2000 contacts which in turn gets sent out through their networks: [email protected]

Kind Regards
