Getting You Started For Energy Management – 10 Prompts To Consider

With the range of energy management solutions currently out there in the market things can feel complicated and starting your journey to become more sustainable (and save money) can be daunting.

Do you have areas that are only occasionally used or people just pass through? Installing PIR is a great way to avoid lights being left on and forgotten about

Are you windows open? Have a quick check around the building to make sure radiators, AC and other heating or cooling equipment isn’t running at the same time otherwise that’s money literally out of the window!

Portable electric heaters can really mess with your building environment, they can confuse sensors into thinking it is warmer in the building that it actually is, forcing cooling on and creating a vicious circle.

Is your hot tap water nearly boiling? This could be a sign that your boiler thermostat is set to high and could be reduced for a nice gas saving.

When was the last time things got a good look over? Keeping systems maintained means they will work more efficiently and potentially reduce reactive costs in the future.

Server rooms can be like ice boxes, running your AC 24/7, but is this needed? Speak with your IT team and find out what your exact server requirements are, you might be able to budge that AC up a few degrees and save some money.

Got a building management system? Often these systems can be forgotten about but they control a large amount of your building consumption – 100% worth getting a good engineer in for a day for a once over to make sure things are working as they should be.

What’s happening at night? A night survey of your building might help you identify what sneaky systems are still running when everyone has gone home.

Timeclocks – often smaller systems can be run by timeclocks onsite, just check that times are set correctly and are relevant to what hours your building operates they can often go astray, especially when the clocks go forward or back!
