About the Speakers:
Sarah Bateman, CEO of Unify Energy is an experienced business leader who is deeply passionate about nurturing great ideas, and building her career in scaling businesses. She joined the Bruntwood Group to commercialise an Innovative energy proposition that the property developer had incubated internally after recognising gaps in the Energy market, ultimately leading the launch of Unify Energy, the first regulated Energy supply business to offer an end-to-end energy solution from the supply, and sub-meter management through to billing for building owners and operators. Sarah was previously part of Global tech giant Cisco leading the incubation and commercialisation of start-up ideas across Europe. As a member of the board of trustees of the Smart Works Greater Manchester charity Sarah is also passionate about supporting women and D&I.
Randel Bryan joined MIF in January 2020 to help support the charities commercial and financial transition to Factory International, a world-class arts and culture venue being developed in the heart of Manchester – www.factoryinternational.org.
Randel brings an extensive background in leading organisations, both within the private and charity sector, and is highly committed to the promotion of education, innovation, partnerships and climate action, fostered via his Sustainability Leadership Masters at the University of Cambridge.
Randel’s career has taken him from ambitious start-ups, through to the big studio environments such as Universal Pictures, Endemol Shine and Discovery Education, where he has pioneered commercial, event and content strategies for some of the world’s leading brands.
Regarding his non-executive responsibilities, Randel serves as a board member at both Trinity Music College and BBC Children in Need, we’re he brings his knowledge and connections to help the development of young people across the UK.
Ben is a Director at Anthesis and leads the Energy Systems team. He is responsible for the delivery of consultancy, design and project management services.
Ben has considerable experience in the commissioning, delivery and management of energy projects to decarbonise real estate, including post-project evaluation and optimisation. He has fulfilled Project Director roles on regional property investment programmes, design-build commissions and supported UK Gov in policy development across a range of low or zero carbon technologies.
Ben manages a team of consultant engineers and analysts and coordinates project teams that include communications, finance and legal experts. He has developed a number of bespoke services that aim to address the market failure to implement carbon savings in the public sector. This work has included the management of collaborative implementation programmes through regional bodies across the UK and the project management of a number of complex carbon reduction projects through the core cities programme. Ben has also led national energy efficiency programmes in Mexico and Peru.
Maria Dutton is an Associate at the Green Finance Institute (GFI) within the UK’s Built Environment Programme working on accelerating private finance into the decarbonisation of buildings. She leads the GFI’s Green Loans workstream to catalyse a robust, transparent, and scaled unsecured green home finance market. She also works on the GFI’s Property Linked Finance workstream to develop an innovative new solution for the UK market.
Maria joined the Institute from J.P. Morgan Chase, gaining experience from a range of teams in both the Corporate Investment Bank and in Asset Management.
Suzanne is the head of Trowers & Hamlins’ Manchester office and leads the north west Real Estate practice. She specialises in the development of home ownership products working with Homes England in relation to its grant funded sale products, including the shared ownership lease and most recently the £19 billion Help to Buy programme.
Suzanne also sits on the MHCLG joint advisory committee set up to promote the development of the Build to Rent sector. On a wider basis, Suzanne advises clients on large scale property projects, including public private partnerships and regeneration schemes, Suzanne is also the partner in charge of our Residential Sales team in Manchester. Suzanne is named as a Leading Individual in both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500. She is also an editorial panel member for ThinkHouse a web based resource to promote knowledge sharing in the housing industry as well as being a business representative on MCC’s Our Manchester Forum.
Ben is Head of Products at Together. He joined Together in 2023 and he is responsible for the ongoing development and management of Together’s lending product set, including leading work on the green product development goals which form part of Together’s sustainability strategy. Ben has almost a decade of experience in financial services, and brings a wealth of experience in launching new propositions across the full spectrum of financial products, including green lending schemes aimed at businesses, and sustainability platforms to help businesses improve their sustainability credentials and reduce energy usage. His background is in financial product management and business and commercial banking, but Ben has also worked across various roles in digital marketing, operational and corporate governance roles within the banking sector. Ben is passionate about designing financial products which actively help businesses, homeowners and landlords to improve the energy efficiency of their properties and improve their sustainability credentials.
Heather is Director of Sales for Clockwise, a rapidly growing Flexi Office space provider with sites across the UK and Europe. She has advised at 10 Downing Street on how to better support female entrepreneurs and in 2016 was named a Rising Star in the Manchester Young Talent Awards for her work building partnerships to better support fast growth businesses in the Manchester Business community. In 2018, she was named on the Northern Power Women Future List, and in 2019 was awarded “Female Networker of the Year” at the City of Manchester Business Awards and “Employee of the Year” in 2021.
Heather is co-chair of pro-manchester’s Property and Regeneration committee.
Nathan Feddy is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Vector Homes. He previously worked as the Research And Development Engineer at Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre, Composites International Business Development at Graphene Flagship, and former Nanotechnology Consultant at BREC Solutions. Nathan attended the University of Birmingham.
