Now made up of an estimated 2500 firms in the UK, the last few years have seen fintech grow from its disruptive roots into a £11bn industry. From the convergence of two of Manchester’s largest industries – financial services and digital technology – the city boasts a growing cluster of nearly 150 fintech businesses that are part of the UK’s globally significant fintech sector.
These range from long-standing companies supporting financial services to much smaller start-up's and scaleups that are developing innovative solutions, and it is estimated they will add £1bn to the Greater Manchester economy in 2023. About the Speakers:
Charlotte has been involved in capital markets, fintech and technology throughout her career – as CEO, Chair, Board Advisor and Non-Executive Director. Prior to CFIT, Charlotte was Chair and Trustee of Open Banking and was also CEO of the fintech industry body, Innovate Finance. In this role, she supported the work of Ron Kalifa in delivering the strategic fintech review (The Kalifa Review). She works closely with entrepreneurs, financial services firms, academia, government and regulators on fintech advocacy and strategy. Charlotte received an OBE for her contribution to financial services in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021. She believes firmly in a diversity and innovation-first approach.
Julian is a strategy consultant with proven commercial expertise across the financial services, FinTech and professional services industries.
Julian is a strategy consultant with over 25 years experience in financial services. Prior to joining Whitecap in 2012 he was marketing director at HML (now part of Computershare), and his career has also included roles at Boston Consulting Group, Nationwide Building Society, Mortgages plc, and Merrill Lynch. Whitecap is involved in two regional FinTech ecosystems, FinTech North and FinTech West, both of which it helped create and now manages. Via these initiatives, Julian is also involved in the FinTech National Network which was created by Innovate Finance, FinTech Scotland and FinTech North in 2019 to help link the national Fintech sector across the UK.
Anthony is a keen supporter of North West Business Community, being a Director and former Chair of pro-manchester, and member of the pro-manchester Fintech committee. Anthony is also a board director and investor in a number of businesses in the region with specific focus on financial services and technology.
Anthony co-founded OpenMoney and is passionate about making financial advice accessible and affordable to everyone. He has considerable experience of the financial services industry, most recently as a founding partner of Tatton Asset Management plc. Previously, he was a consultant at both Arthur Anderson and KPMG, specialising in regulatory, performance and strategic issues for the life and pensions sector.
Sam is an internationally-recognised fintech pioneer, a thought leader on diversity and inclusion, and a champion of financial wellness. She is the CEO of Moneyhub, the award-winning Open Banking, Open Finance, and Open Data platform that transforms data into personalised digital experiences and initiates payments. She joined Moneyhub following a distinguished career at Willis Towers Watson and at fintech eValue.
Sam is passionate about the power of technology to improve financial wellbeing for all. She is a non-executive director at the Charities Aid Foundation Bank, a founding member of Open51, a group transforming financial services and building the new digital economy, and an advisory board member at impact investment platform The Big Exchange. She also serves on several industry panels, as well as representing the UK and Europe as a Non-Executive Director on the Financial Data and Technology Association’s (FDATA’s) Global Board.
Harry has over 10 years experience across payments, technology and e-commerce. He is now the co-founder and CEO of Boodil, a fintech that provides a secure and developer friendly cardless payment solution accessible via an API. Boodil give businesses the ability to accept payments directly from the banks, cutting out the costly card networks, making payments cheaper, faster and smoother whilst rewarding your customers for every purchase they make.
An award-winning advisor and entrepreneur, with over 15 years in the financial services and tech industry. Kimberley hosts the popular Get Started podcast, chairs the Manchester Fintech committee and is a long-term mentor for Rise by Barclays, Fintech Alliance and Fintech Circle. A regular on stage at events like Web Summit, Fintech Week London, Fintech Fringe, Finance Magnates and Fintech North, Kimberley’s insight also features in financial industry publications such as Fintech Magazine, Payments Expert, Verdict and The Fintech Power50 journal. Kimberley is board advisor to several exciting Fintech start-ups including ekko, Lemon and others soon to be announced.
Jamie is the SVP, Product at MirrorWeb, where he designs products to help preserve the history of nations as well as make compliance cheaper, faster, and easier for financial services firms. When not focused on product, he plays tennis, composes classical music, and runs round moors at the weekend for fun.
