Does your business have the knowledge and skills it requires to succeed?

I am often the first independent senior appointment that my clients have made.

They have often never experienced having a new person involved with their business with a different skill and knowledge set.

When I first arrive, this isn’t what they are interested in, they simply want me to “sort out” their accounts or “handle” their cash issue.

So that is what I do.

In the process of doing so, I build credibility, I understand their business and I build a relationship with them.

Usually, they start to realise that having someone involved with a different skill and knowledge set is incredibly useful.

I don’t think like them, I don’t look at the business in the same way, I don’t know everything they know, but I do know things they don’t know.

I swiftly start to become involved in the business strategy and high level trading issues.

This allows me to ask the question:

Does your business have the knowledge and skills it requires to succeed?

It allows me to have discussions about how they could look to strengthen them team.

I am a firm believer that any good new senior employee can repay the business ten fold.

Sometimes my client grasp this idea quickly, sometimes slowly.

But my arrival plants the seed.
