Clarke Willmott launches new ‘one couple, one lawyer’ divorce service

Leading law firm Clarke Willmott is sharing the benefits of its new offering for couples going through divorce or separation.

The ‘one couple, one lawyer’ approach, based on the Resolution Together model, involves one solicitor providing joint legal advice to help both parties reach a fair settlement together. This is designed to reduce acrimony and achieve a more amicable resolution, which in turn could help save time and money.

“The conventional adversarial model can often escalate conflict,” said Clare Webb, a partner in Clarke Willmott LLP’s family law team.

“There is growing demand for impartial, joint advice from clients wishing to handle their separation, finances, and decisions regarding their children together.

“The new approach offers quicker resolutions, reduced conflict, and avoids the polarisation often caused by two opposing lawyers.

“’One couple, one lawyer’ enables couples to focus on constructive communication and joint decision-making, ultimately helping them move forward with less emotional and financial burden.

“It allows both parties to shape their settlement together with the help of one lawyer and, if needed, a team of specialists such as a financial expert, child specialist, or family therapist.”

Clare says many couples acknowledge that they built their wealth together and so, in the same vein, want to work together to separate their wealth by agreement.

“Handling the process in a dignified, non-confrontational manner allows families to maintain strong relationships and preserve wealth that might otherwise be drained by contentious litigation.

“While not suitable for everyone, it represents a revolutionary step forward, allowing resolution-focused lawyers to respond to clients who wish to navigate their divorce together.”

The ‘one couple one lawyer’ approach is a new addition to Clarke Willmott’s broad range of family services, aiming to keep clients out of court.

The family team offers a holistic approach, drawing on a network of legal, financial, and therapeutic professionals to help clients achieve a more dignified and effective separation or divorce.

The law firm is a member of Resolution, which promotes a non-confrontational approach to family disputes through methods like mediation and collaborative law.

Clarke Willmott is a national law firm with offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton.
