What do you do?

Seems like an easy question doesn’t it.

“What do you do?”

I am a Fractional Finance Director. But that’s my job title, it doesn’t actually explain what I do.

So what do I do? Well as with most questions there isn’t one easy answer, I do a number of things. But if I was pushed to give just one answer I would say that I help people to make better decisions by using numbers.

I believe that this is at the hear of what I do and I try to always remember this.

Long detailed reports are great, sheet after sheet of analysis is fascinating.

But if it isn’t helping decision making, is it actually of any value?

My clients don’t want reports, they don’t want to review numbers.

They want me to tell them what they need to know to make good decisions.

This is what my job really is.
