  1. Introduce yourself

I’m Michelle, I’ve lived in Manchester for around 15 years and an honorary Manc who loves gravy and hates mushy peas.

On a more serious note, I’m Head of Deal Origination at MHA which is a full service accounting firm with almost 2000 colleagues across the UK.  I sit in the Corporate Finance team which is one of the largest CF teams in the North West and we work with founders to support them with securing funding for growth, making acquisitions right through to thinking about selling their business.  I also Co-Chair the Pro Manchester Corporate Finance Committee and am a board advisor to Reform Radio CIC.

  1. Career highlight

Becoming Head of Deal Origination at MHA, not bad for a girl from a council estate😊

  1. Name three words that describe your personality

My kids said kind, caring and fabulous – I’ll settle for that!

  1. What’s the best thing about pro-manchester

pro-manchester are a great connector and want to use the power of those connections and the people in Greater Manchester to make a difference in our business community

  1. What are your priorities for 2024

My role is to talk to businesses about what they’re looking to achieve and then support their thinking on options from a funding, acquisition and exit perspective – whether that’s understanding the role Private Equity can play to support your growth, what are your options when it comes to succession and how can you get the business to be “exit ready”.  It’s a trusted position to support a business from a transaction perspective and you often need to build a relationship over a number of months if not years.

  1. What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

Manchester has a thriving deals community which continues to go from strength to strength meaning businesses can get the right support to grow from professionals right on their doorstep.

From a tech perspective there are some wonderful accelerators to support growth – of note is Turing Innovation Catalyst led by Liz Scott.

From a people perspective we will be more successful if we have more diversity at board level, just read the latest McKinsey reports.  At the forefront of supporting black females into leadership positions is Sharon and Afiya Amesu who have co-founded She Leads for Legacy – a formidable duo who I believe will be on a national stage before very long.

  1. Favourite meeting place in Manchester

I love a coffee so 200 Degrees on Mosley Street is a regular spot for me, not just because it’s over the road from the office, the coffee is mwah

  1. Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet

If you’re a UK HQ, privately owned business thinking about growth or succession then let’s talk.  That growth often needs funding and you need to weigh up the pros and cons of organic growth vs acquisition.  If you want to better understand your succession options and how to be ready for sale and understand your options then I’m always open to an informal discussion.
