The Great British Lie: Living False Narratives, Reviving Truths
In collaboration with Odd Arts and Pro Manchester's Racial Equality Group, this event invites participants to reflect on how British history has been taught and explore its enduring impact on modern-day racism.
Through the power of theatre, Odd Arts presents a play, The Great British Lie, written by Curtis Cole, which re-evaluates key elements of British history offering an anti-racist lens to scrutinise often complex and contradictory narratives. Verified by historian and author, Linford Sweeney, for accuracy, this performance delves into overlooked or misrepresented historical events that have shaped contemporary social inequalities and attitudes toward race in the UK.
The artwork featured on this event's promotion for the play The Great British Lie was created by talented young artist Anaya Hylton.
This event is for everyone: Designed to spark important conversations, challenge conventional perspectives, and inspire action towards racial equality. We have a BSL interpreter to ensure accessibility for all. It is ideal for educators, activists, students, professionals, and anyone interested in understanding how our collective past informs present-day systems of privilege and oppression.
