LGBT+ Parents/Carers Day is coming up on September 19th, and Proud 2b Parents would love for you to include it in your internal and external communications. They’ve also added some new resources, including an exclusive interview with Susan Golombok, the pioneering researcher who helped shape the LGBT+ Parent and Carer movement back in 1976.
Why September 19th?
September 19th is a significant date because, in 1976, the feminist magazine Spare Rib featured the struggles of lesbian mothers fighting for custody of their children. This coverage led to important research on children raised by lesbian mothers and challenged harmful stereotypes. By recognizing this day, they hope to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges our community faces and highlight the need for continued progress toward equality.
How You Can Get Involved:
Your involvement can make a big difference. Here’s how you can participate:
- Share Stories: Encourage your team to share their personal experiences related to LGBT+ parenting. These stories can be powerful tools for education and advocacy.
- Social Media Engagement: Join the conversation on social media using the hashtags #LGBTQIAParentsCarersDay and #Proud2bParents. They’ve attached a social media asset pack to help you contribute—Access the Social Media Asset Pack.
- Promote Awareness: Use your communication channels to share the importance of September 19th and the challenges faced by LGBT+ parents/carers. Share relevant information, articles, or resources with your audience. – LGBT+ Parents and Carers Day — Proud 2 b Parents
- Organisational Training: If your organisation could benefit from more awareness of LGBT+ parents’ and carers’ needs, consider booking a training session or lunch-and-learn session with Proud 2 b Parents.

Manchester LGBTQ+ Death Café: 2 October, 7-8pm
The Molly House, 26 Richmond St, M1 3NB
An opportunity to get together, have an open conversation about death, funerals and grief, and break down the taboos that surround it. Your friends and family might feel awkward about it – we don’t. The aim is to increase awareness of death and ultimately to help people make the most of their lives. The discussions are led by the people present, and they have no agenda or direction, so that each death cafe is entirely unique and unpredictable. Conversations are light-hearted, supportive and empathetic and will happen in a small group of people. You will have the chance to talk about anything you wish, but you can also just sit and listen if you would prefer. All mortals welcome!

Stonewall Equality Dinner: 30th October 2024, 7pm – 1am
De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, London, WC2
The Equality Dinner is the most prestigious day in the Stonewall calendar and this year will be hosted by Gok Wan and Suzi Ruffell.
On the night, over 400 of the UK’s most prominent supporters of LGBTQ+ rights from across public life and business will attend to learn about, and raise funds for, Stonewall’s vital campaigns for LGBTQ+ freedom, equity and potential. The evening’s entertainment delivers a balance of Stonewall’s important messaging complemented by fun and fundraising in equal measures.
This year’s Equality Dinner delivers an important rallying call for LGBTQ+ supporters and allies – that we need to stand together to protect the progress we have made. The need to stand together for a positive future for LGBTQ+ people is more important than ever.

Linden Archive Manchester book launch
OUT & ABOUT WITH LINDEN: A Queer Archive of the North — Stuart Linden Rhodes Manchester book launch with a talk from Stuart Linden and book signing.
OUT & ABOUT WITH LINDEN: A Queer Archive of the North is a selected archival work capturing the 1990s LGBTQ+ club and pub scene across the north of England, from Birmingham to Newcastle. Celebratory in tone, it encapsulates a people defiant in the face of the AIDS crises and discriminatory laws. Featuring a foreword by Harry Clayton-Wright, with contributions from Boy George, Paul O’Grady, Julian Clary, Su Pollard, Heather Small, Mel B and more.
‘Linden’ was the roving reporter for APN and the Gay Times during the early to mid 1990s, his columns for those magazines were entitled: Out & About with Linden. Stuart Linden Rhodes was also a lecturer at a local further education college, the pseudonym ‘Linden’ adopted due to concerns generated by draconian Clause 28 legislation sanctioned by Tory governments of the era. At home in North Yorkshire during the ‘rona lockdowns of 2020-21, Stuart established the Linden Archive online as a way to preserve his work and look back fondly on the brash, thriving gay scene of the 1990s.

This is your opportunity to make your voice heard and to tell them what you would like to see in the memorial. Whilst your personal ideas might not be fully incorporated, rest assured that all responses will be considered when the design brief is drawn-up. More details can be found on the Reparations tab on the FWP website.
Please complete the survey HERE. You can send it anonymously or fill in your details if you prefer to. Thank you.
Manchester Pride: Your Voice Matters!
In 2021 Manchester Pride refreshed the way it engages with Greater Manchester’s LGBTQ+ communities to ensure more people were able to provide feedback about what they want the Charity to support, and how Manchester Pride delivers the annual Festival. Pride In Our Future is Manchester Pride’s consultation project which creates multiple opportunities throughout the year for our communities to tell us what they want to see from our events and from the Charity.
They want to ensure they’re doing everything they can to achieve their vision and support LGBTQ+ people during the Festival and beyond, with year-round campaigns, events and opportunities. But they can’t do this without you. They want to hear what you feel are the issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities, what causes you’d like to see Manchester Pride support in the future, and what you’d like from future Manchester Pride Festivals. Your honest feedback is valuable to them and helps shape the future of Manchester Pride.
They invite you to share your views on the future of Manchester Pride. Your input will directly influence their strategic direction, including setting priorities for grant distribution and shaping the Manchester Pride Festival. This is your opportunity to play a vital role in co-designing the future of the modern Pride movement.
For full details on the ways you can get involved, please see this link: https://www.manchesterpride.com/prideinourfuture
