About the Speakers:
Joanna Crookall serves as the CEO of Ramsey Crookall, the longest-established, independent firm of Stockbrokers and Investment Managers on the Isle of Man. The Firm was founded by her grandfather in 1946 following his return to the Island from active service in the Second World War.
Joanna’s tenure with the family business commenced in October 1987, just two weeks ahead of “Black Monday”, the unexpected global stock market crash, which she describes as “a baptism of fire”! She obtained her MSI Diploma in 1990 and was appointed to the Board of Directors of Ramsey Crookall & Co Ltd in 1991.
In 2010, Joanna was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and achieved Chartered Wealth Manager Status. That same year, she took on the role of CEO, succeeding her father, Neal Crookall, who is the current Chairman of the Board.
Ramsey Crookall looks after a global client base from offices on the Isle of Man and also in Cape Town, South Africa. The Firm has responsibility for assets in excess of £2bn and provides a full range of multi-currency investment services.
Sharon Shimmin has recently joined Capital International Bank as Head of Business Development. With a career that spans over 30 years in banking, Sharon has gained a wealth of knowledge across all the key business sectors that are represented on the island.
Providing tailored banking services through combining innovative digital solutions with strong personal relationships is essential to Sharon’s role, with a key focus on supporting the broader financial services sector by delivering solutions that meet its diverse needs. Additionally, Sharon is passionate about her local roots and dedicated to seeking out opportunities that promote the Isle of Man’s growth and enhance its reputation as a thriving financial community.
Michael joined the Department after working in the Accountancy profession for 27 years. He was a Director at Grant Thornton Limited, and prior to that at PKF. Michael is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the former President of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce and former Chair of the Isle of Man Society of Chartered Accountants. During his professional career he worked on the Island with a wide variety of clients and organisations of all sizes, covering all sectors of the local economy.
