1. Introduce yourself
I’m Alex, Head of Policy at Manchester Airports Group (MAG), with responsibility for all of MAG’s airports and group activities, based at our Head Office at Manchester Airport. I’m an economist by training and have been involved in policy and economic development in the public and private sectors for 25 years.
2. Career highlight
I have been involved in a range of projects throughout my career where I have been proud of the results achieved, but a highlight was being part of the team that set up MAG’s digital start-up. That business has now evolved into CAVU, the fastest growing part of MAG with operations across the globe, providing a real step change in MAG’s overall business portfolio.
3. Name three words that describe your personality
Holistic, collaborative, analytical
4. What’s the best thing about pro-manchester
The network of businesses and real expertise and knowledge of the city it offers, which are all part of the wiring in Manchester that help to make it successful.
5. What are your priorities for 2024
Working with the new Government to support growth in the North and deliver the infrastructure that it needed to underpin this, such as Northern Powerhouse Rail.
6. What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?
The scale of construction demonstrates the dynamism of the city, and the fact that this is being driven by genuinely high-value, innovative businesses that can help not only grow the city, but the North and the UK as a whole.
7. Favourite meeting place in Manchester
There are so many new places now and I’m not based in town anymore so I normally rely on others to recommend places, but it is always nice to go back to the old haunts that have been around forever, like Corbieres and Mr Thomas’s.
8. Are there any particular types of businesses that you would like to meet
We’re always looking to develop new routes out of Manchester and any businesses able to provide evidence of demand can help us in our work to secure the routes that businesses need to trade and invest internationally.
