  • Sustainability and the environment are at the heart of the new space
  • The people-focused space facilitates the firm’s collaborative workplace model
  • Deloitte’s pioneering new home at 100 Embankment includes a dedicated ground floor entrance and offers 360-degree views of Manchester’s distinctive skyline

July 16 2024 – Deloitte’s North West practice has officially opened its doors to a pioneering state-of-the-art home at 100 Embankment in Manchester. Occupying 65,600 sq. ft and split across three upper floors of the nine-storey building, plus the ground floor, the move underlines the firm’s ambitious vision for growth in the region, consistent with a hybrid working model which prioritises sustainability, flexibility and collaboration.

Commenting on the move, Jo Ahmed, North West Practice Senior Partner at Deloitte said: “Our bold move reinforces Deloitte’s continued commitment to sustainable growth and development in the North West. We have over 1,400 extremely talented people based in the North West and I am proud to welcome each and every one of them, plus our clients and guests to 100 Embankment.

“We listened to our people and designed the new office around how they want to work focussing on collaboration, connection and innovation. The space incorporates new technology that enables seamless connection between our people and clients wherever they are.”

The new office boasts numerous innovative features to accommodate the firm’s hybrid work model. These include a dedicated client suite, flexible co-working spaces and the Gallery room – a dynamic and versatile space designed for showcasing, facilitating workshops and hosting seminars – ensuring the needs of both Deloitte’s colleagues and clients are met. Team connectivity within the office is boosted with internal staircases and dedicated social spaces. A bespoke wellness room, nursing room and muti-faith room further highlight the firm’s commitment to health and wellbeing.

Sustainability is a key focus in the move. 100 Embankment was selected, in part, based on its sustainability credentials, including having no fossil fuel use on site. The office is also fitted with low carbon products such as carpet made from industrial waste and recycled plastics, and joinery made from local offcut timber and wood dust. This aligns with Deloitte’s firmwide mission to decarbonise its buildings and operation and prioritise sustainable growth on its path to net zero.

Given the office’s central location, cycle racks and changing facilities are also offered to provide people with commuting flexibility. EV charging points are available in an underground car park with over 95% of Deloitte’s fleet cars now electric.

Gavin Harrison, head of Sustainability at Deloitte UK celebrated the move: “We know that providing offices that align with the environmental values of our people, partners and clients is vital. That’s why it’s so important to us that Deloitte is synonymous with delivering market-leading, sustainable workspaces, which place community at the heart of its design.”

The office forms part of the regeneration of central Salford, located above Greengate Square and adjacent to Manchester’s Medieval Quarter. Alongside 100 Embankment, the area has seen a rapid increase in development activity in recent years.

Sean Beech, partner, North West leadership team at Deloitte: “I’m proud of the rigorous process that has brought us to this point. Our space is centred on collaboration and flexibility, and provides our people with the opportunity to balance hybrid working with meaningful in-person interaction. This is an ambitious step for Deloitte and reflects our commitment to being a leading place to work in the region.”

The significant increase in space and amenities provided by the new office will be instrumental in supporting the development of the firm’s talent and strengthen its relationships with key clients across the region and beyond. It follows the recent announcement of 355 promotions across the firm’s North West practice, including five partner and 13 director promotions.

Commenting on the importance of the move, Ahmed continued: “This is a significant time for the North West – we’re seeing rapid progression across key industries such as technology, climate and sustainability, and sport. To best support this, it’s important that we invest in the tools that will enable collaborative and innovative working and will support development of new talent. I am proud to be part of a firm that is committed and actively working to help shape the future of the region and its communities and look forward to seeing all the amazing work that will be facilitated by this new space”.
