Member Spotlight: Conor McDermott, Director of SME Lending – LHV Bank Limited

I’m Conor. I lead the SME Lending business, including our main hub office in Manchester, for LHV Bank, one of the UK’s newest licensed banks. I have been in UK banking for 20 years and bring broad SME finance experience to help our partners and customers.

Career highlight

There have been many, but the opportunity to get involved with a new UK bank so early in the growth story is immense. It is exciting to mould the proposition and customer journey to improve accessibility to capital finance. And it is especially rewarding to help our clients grow their businesses.

Name three words that describe your personality: Client-focused, reliable, and dynamic.

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

The best thing about pro-Manchester is the access to such a strong, established network, with great events that allow collaboration with dynamic professionals and businesses.

What are your priorities for 2024?

My priorities for 2024 include consolidating the great experience already in place across the team as well as identifying further areas where we can assist our clients in accessing finance. We are also using technology solutions to empower our team’s efforts to continue to deliver the highest levels of service to our clients.

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

Manchester is vibrant and offers so much opportunity across so many sectors. Sometimes the investment in physical infrastructure grabs the headlines, but just as key is the investment in people, and it’s great to see the city’s commitment to the vision that every resident can share in the prosperity of a growing economy.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester:

At this stage, I’m just enjoying exploring the city – there are too many options to name just one.

What types of business would you like to meet?

We provide term debt finance to real estate-backed businesses across many sectors, including real estate investment, and would be delighted to speak to clients and introducers in this space to explore how we could work together.
