Member Spotlight: Simon Colvin, Partner – Weightmans

I am proud to have been a partner at Weightmans for 10.5 years. I have three roles – to lead the environment team, as head of the energy and utilities sector and as the lead of the firm’s ESG programme. In undertake all these roles from the Manchester office.

Career highlight

I’ve had a few trips to the Court of Appeal, but the most important thing to me has been my ability to support and kick start the careers of many environmental lawyers now practising in England.

What’s the best thing about pro-manchester?

It provides a forum for the professional community in Manchester to come together and share knowledge and learning for the benefit of its members and the city.

What are your priorities for 2024?

To formally launch our ESG client offering and to further expand the range of energy and water-specific work we undertake.

What do you think are the most important things going on in Manchester at the moment?

I think the political situation with Andy Burnham and the dynamic with a general election is interesting as is the dialogue around the clear air zone. There are the football teams, the universities, and the string of tall buildings, too – I think the future for Manchester is very bright.

Favourite meeting place in Manchester?

I love the coffee in Federal on Deansgate.

What types of business would you like to meet?

Any business that is struggling to either make a start on their ESG journey, or those that don’t know how to address specific risks to their business – for example, net zero, modern slavery in their supply chain, or the challenges and opportunities presented by biodiversity net gain and natural capital. I’d love to meet and talk to them about the help and support we can provide.
