Firewalk at TalkTalk’s HQ raises £12k for The Christie

Salford-based connectivity provider, TalkTalk has raised more than £12,000 for The Christie with a firewalk organised by colleagues. The Manchester based cancer centre provides care and treatment for more than 60,000 patients a year and access to more than 650 clinical trials at any one time.

61 colleagues walked barefoot over hot coals at the company’s Soapworks headquarters – with some reaching temperatures of over 500 degrees.

The team more than doubled their original fundraising target of £5,000, raising £12,671.77, which was presented to the charity by TalkTalk’s Head of North West Engagement and CSR, Helen McHugh.

Helen said: “This was a fantastic event for an important local charity and I’m pleased that we have not only hit our fundraising target – but have doubled it. I’m proud of the colleagues who stepped out of their comfort zone for this one, knowing the funds can be put towards vital care and research. For a cause that’s close to many of us.”

The money will contribute to The Christie’s vital work in cancer care and research, for patients and their families.

Lisa Clark, Corporate Fundraising Manager, from The Christie charity said: “It’s inspiring to see such exciting charity events taking place locally, and the enthusiasm of the team who took part echoes how rewarding it can be. These events and fundraising activities make a huge difference to our work, and we are so grateful to TalkTalk staff for their bravery and generosity.

“The Christie charity supports the work of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust providing enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. This includes money for care and treatment, research, education and extra patient services. Donations make a huge difference to the care and treatment that The Christie is able to provide to patients and their families.”

The cheque was presented to The Christie charity at TalkTalk’s headquarters, The Soapworks in Salford, with a group of the participants who stepped onto the coals to raise money.
