Commercial and Technology Lawyer Manchester, Hybrid Working

4th November 2022, 3:37 pm

As a Barclays Commercial and Technology lawyer, you will join our Commercial, Innovation and Technology Legal team, providing advisory and transactional support across the Barclays Group. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a specialist team, where you will provide both strategic and day to day legal support. Covering a wide range of projects, you’ll focus on managing legal risks in relation to a range of technology and general commercial projects, advising on both internal risks as well as dealing with partners and suppliers.

Barclays is one of the world’s largest and most respected financial institutions, with 329 years of success, quality and innovation behind us. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive, and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in.  Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Reviewing and advising on Barclays’ procurement of goods, services and software and commercial partnerships that Barclays enters into, including liaising with other Legal teams and non-legal specialists
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across Barclays to provide them with Legal support in CIT’s areas of expertise
  • Working closely with external counsel and managing them where necessary
  • Actively contributing in the development of training for business areas and for other members of the legal function on legal risk issues
  • Leading and participating in initiatives designed to further Barclays’ Citizenship, Diversity & Inclusion, Environmental & Social Governance and other Barclays-wide programmes
  • Participating in and influencing the development of processes, policies and procedures to manage and mitigate Legal risks
  • Proactively sharing know-how and helping to manage and develop colleagues through training, mentoring and supervision

What we’re looking for:

  • Graduate solicitor or barrister (or equivalent foreign qualified lawyer, eligible to take a qualified lawyer transfer test)
  • Experience of working on technology-led legal work with a good knowledge of complex commercial transactions
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication and analytical skills, able to contribute and generate innovative ideas

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Financial services industry background, either in-house with a financial services organisation, or with a significant law firm
  • Able to demonstrate a knowledge of Barclays and its operational and strategic objectives
  • Experience of working as part of a large team of lawyers with multiple stakeholders

Where will you be working?

This role is hybrid working and will based at home and in our Manchester office

Both offices are in the heart of the city centre, offering a modern working environment, with restaurants, bars and gyms just a stone’s throw away from the office.
