Operational update – Piccadilly trams
21st October 2022, 3:33 pm
I am getting in touch to update you regarding upcoming essential Metrolink track replacement works at Piccadilly Gardens and a temporary change to some Metrolink services in the run-up to these works. As you may be aware, TfGM were planning to carry out essential track replacement work at Piccadilly Gardens from 23 – 30 October 2022.
Due to an issue with Metrolink’s rail supplier, these works have had to be delayed and are now expected to be carried out towards the end of November 2022. As a result of this delay, and to ensure the continued and safe operation of services in the run-up to the works, there will a temporary change to some Metrolink services from Monday 24 October, until the Piccadilly Gardens works can take place towards the end of November 2022.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused, the supplier issue is outside of our control, and we will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption to customer journeys.
Temporary Changes to Services
Changes to services Monday 24 October – end November 2022 are as follows:
Tram service | Temporary change |
Bury and Altrincham services | Will not operate into Piccadilly
Will operate direct via Market Street
|
Ashton services | Will operate to Crumpsall via Market Street and Victoria (Ashton to Piccadilly Station only, for the last week)
|
Eccles services | Will operate to Deansgate-Castlefield (DCF)
|
General note | Passengers wishing to make onward tram connections to Piccadilly rail station are advised to change at Market Street |
Passengers on all lines will still be able to get into the city centre and there are a number of options for passengers wanting to make cross-city journey on affected routes, including alternative tram services, bus replacement or walking routes. A direct bus will operate between Deansgate-Castlefield and Piccadilly during the service change. This service will operate every 12 minutes. Further information regarding tram services, bus replacement, or walking routes can be found and will be updated on the following dedicated webpage: https://tfgm.com/piccadilly-gardens-service-change
Customers will be directed to the resources above and advised to plan ahead and allow additional time when making connecting journeys. This will be communicated through TfGM and Metrolink social media posts as well as posters, public information displays, public announcements, and support staff on Metrolink stops and services. A press release has been published here: https://news.tfgm.com/news
Once the date of the postponed Piccadilly Gardens works is confirmed, a further update letter will be sent to residents and businesses in the vicinity of the works.
