In his opening address as chair for pro-manchester, Anthony Morrow, CEO and Founder of fintech firm OpenMoney implored businesses to think beyond financial targets and ambitions. Whilst he addressed that the country as a whole was yet to fully understand the economic and social impact of the past eighteen months, he was in no doubt that all businesses will be better placed to face those challenges successfully – if they were willing to work together.
Lauding the incredible growth seen in the Greater Manchester region in the last two decades, he highlighted the thriving technology sector but urged that businesses must combine to address how tech businesses can complement the work of more traditional organisations to develop and grow an ecosystem which is future proof and leaves no one behind.
Continuing this theme, he spoke of the stark inequalities that have come to the fore in the past 12 months. Whilst he appreciated that these were problems that will not be solved overnight he did stress that it is crucial that business leaders have an eye on the wider impact of decisions, as we aim to build back better. Manchester is truly a great city and must demonstrates its responsibility to wider social issues including diversity and inclusion by creating opportunity for all in a newly shaped business landscape.
